Welcome to RJO Charts.

Hi, thanks for taking a look at the site.

I'm Rob Nield. Bass player and arranger. That's me in the corner. I always dress like that, even at bed time.

I've been writing charts for many years now and in recent years the writing has really gone into overdrive whilst writing for my own orchestra. The RJO has been commissioned to write and back other artistes which has really stretched my arranging skills.

One of my principal goals when creating charts is to attain such clarity that no matter how difficult the arrangement, they can be sight read. The reason for this is that my own bands never rehearse. I pick the best musicians and it's up to me to give them the best charts.

As a working musician, I've had to work in situations where some unfortunate act has paid fortunes for poor charts. The result is wasted time and frustration during rehearsals, not to mention the stress for the artiste. Musicians will always try their best despite inferior charts but when confusion is created by badly written dots, the show will suffer.

On the other side of the coin, I recall many rehearsals where I've been presented with flawless charts and everyone can concentrate on playing their best. I always remember those arrangers that I wished to emulate. For me it wasn't about the technical and theoretical wizardry behind their writing, rather the feeling one got when faced with the chart. A sense that you knew it was all going to sound good because they were so clear.

This brings me to the point of RJO Charts. I place great emphasis on creating charts that seemingly play themselves.

I hope I can be of service to you.
